Helping Cleantech Startups Map Their Path to Commercialization

Early-stage cleantech companies often struggle to clearly communicate their progress to investors, funders, and strategic partners. While many founders track Technology Readiness Levels (TRL), fewer understand how these align with Business Readiness Levels (BRL) and the specific proof points required to demonstrate progress.

This workshop was designed to help early-stage cleantech companies better understand TRL–BRL mapping and identify the validation milestones needed to advance toward commercialization. Participants explored the types of evidence typically required by investors and partners, including third-party testing, certifications, permitting, customer performance validation, letters of intent, offtake agreements, and partnership agreements.

Through a structured exercise, companies assessed their current readiness levels and mapped the technical and business milestones needed to move forward. Participants left with a practical tool to track their readiness levels, identify critical proof points, and establish a clear, stepwise pathway toward commercialization.
